The Intrinsic Value of Relationships, and The Drastic Effects of Greed :: essays research papers fc

For such a large number of individuals probably the hardest thing in life is keeping up a solid and sound connection with someone else, yet it is particularly troublesome in a sentimental relationship. Generally, effective connections depend on trustworthiness, correspondence, trust, and in particular trade off. At the point when you are seeing someone has an establishment dependent on those qualities, it causes you to feel associated with that individual. On the far edge of the range, notwithstanding, qualities, for example, envy, covetousness, trickery and narrow-mindedness can prompt unfortunate connections that will just leave individuals hurt. Two exemplary books that we’ve read this semester are McTeague by Frank Norris, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. All through the two books, the peruser can without much of a stretch locate a hidden subject of connections on the off chance that they look sufficiently hard. In the two books it is by all accounts richly certain that the conspicuous relationship depicted is a bombed relationship. While examining the connections between the individuals in the book, it turns out to be clear through the manners by which the characters communicate with one another all through the narratives, that they are not really connections in the genuine pith of the word.      Another repeating topic that is basic in the two books by Norris and Fitzgerald is the quality of insatiability. In McTeague, the eagerness that is in plain view is one that is available all through the novel. The first occasion when we are acquainted with it is when Marcus claims that Trina’s winning lottery ticket has a place with him, and it takes a sad turn, at last prompting McTeague’s murdering of Trina and Marcus, before biting the dust himself from lack of hydration in the desert presently. In The Great Gatsby, a sort of voracity that is on a comparable level was very evident inside the connections of Tom and Daisy just as Gatsby and Daisy. This subject of insatiability, taken cover behind the various connections we read about in the two books, was a fundamental wellspring of their failures.â â â â â      In McTeague, Norris initially depicts Marcus as the dearest companion that McTeague has. McTeague and Marcus meet each other â€Å"at the vehicle conductors’ espresso â€joint, where the two involved a similar table, and met at each meal† (Norris 10). One is normally persuaded, in view of their regular suppers together, and the nearby living nearness to each other, that the two were amazingly dear companions, possibly even best friends.â â â â â In view of Norris’ depiction of Marcus as one of McTeague’s dearest companions, likely his dearest companion, we just approach one side of the relationship, however no genuine sign of how Marcus’s feels towards McTeague.

Comparing the Teachings of Jesus and Mohammed

Looking at the Teachings of Jesus and Mohammed Free Online Research Papers In spite of the fact that Christians who follow the lessons of Jesus, and the Muslims who follow the lessons of Mohammed, may speak to a similar God, they are emphatically extraordinary with regards to the way that they venerate. The birth and passing of both Jesus and Mohammed has molded the idea of every religion today. Their lives have united a great many individuals in the conviction and confidence in one genuine God yet they despite everything have various convictions and practices. Christians are reclaimed through God’s effortlessness and Jesus Christ and the Muslims cling to laws and customs. Both the Christians who follow the lessons of Jesus and the Muslims who follow the lessons of Mohammed put stock in exactly the same God. Also, both Jesus and Mohammed began from poor, calm, customary beginnings. It is there anyway that the likenesses end and the distinctions start. The life of Jesus started in the city of Bethlehem around four BC. He was conceived as the manifest Son of God and supernaturally considered to the virgin, Mary. Mary was marry to Joseph, a woodworker from Nazareth and that is the family where he was raised. The life of Jesus is found in the New Testament of the Bible. He was conceived in Bethlehem where Mary and Joseph had ventured out to conform to the registration law of that time. They at that point fled to Egypt to stay away from the law set by King Herod that all initially conceived children were to be executed. The vast majority of his youth is obscure with the exception of a notice in the book of Luke about (2:21-24) and (2:41-51). Jesus service started as a youngster after his Baptism in the Jordan River. He and his twelve supporters went to the neighboring towns, instructing about God’s love and mending the debilitated and infirmed. He trained that regardless of how terrible somebody had trespassed, if his heart was earnest and he atoned, God would excuse him. It was God’s effortlessness that would spare man rather that severe adherence to the law of that time. As Jesus ubiquity became so did the acknowledgment that he was the Son of God. His service and prominence caused worry with the clerics and recorders. They were worried about the possibility that that he would dismiss the individuals from them and their laws so they plotted to slaughter Jesus. With the assistance of one of His followers, Judas Iscariot, Jesus was captured, attempted and executed by torturous killing. As per the MSN Encarta reference book, Mohammed’s life ran from around 570 to 632. He was naturally introduced to a poor however regarded family in Mecca and was stranded when he was six years of age. He was raised by his granddad and afterward by his uncle. He was a dealer by calling and during one of his movements; he met and wedded Kahdija, a rich widow who was around 15 years more seasoned than himself. (2007, pg1) Mohammed was petitioning God for direction in a cavern one day when he was visited by the lead celestial host Gabriel. Gabriel broadcasted him a prophet of God. Mohammed gradually started to acknowledge his crucial a prophet and started to talk openly about his disclosure. These talks were recorded and are currently what we know has the Koran. The primary lessons of Mohammed is that there is just a single God, a last judgment and for social and monetary equity. He likewise guaranteed that the Koran was simply the last uncovered book and he was the last and last prophets and his lessons replaced every prior one. His ubiquity and promotion for social change brought him force and initiative. It likewise brought adversaries. This brought about wars among Mecca and Medina. The individuals of Mecca at long last submitted to Mohammed and were changed over to Islam. Mohammed kicked the bucket out of nowhere and suddenly on June 8, 632 (MSN Encarta reference book, 2007, pg.1). The passing of Jesus was His very own satisfaction prediction. It is accepted that just through His own demise, the individuals who trusted in Him, could be spared and live endlessly with God in Heaven. He was a definitive symbol of atonement who made everything directly with God. The laws of the Old Testament were not, at this point required and just the conviction and confidence in Jesus as the Christ is essential. On the off chance that it weren’t for the passing and revival of Jesus, his life would not have had the effect on Christianity that it has today. The devotees of Christ Jesus were focused on doing His work and spreading His message to the world regardless of whether it implied their own detainment or even demise. Mohammed’s demise had a comparative outcome in the individuals needing to keep on spreading his message and show the message of Islam. From the outset there was some disarray with regards to who ought to succeed him and do his administration of the individuals. There couldn’t be another prophet since Mohammed had proclaimed himself as the last, so a pioneer must be picked. The initiative of the Islamic religion additionally controls the world of politics of the Islamic people group. The early Muslims perceived neither qualification among religion and state, nor among strict and mainstream specialists and associations. Numerous Muslims even like to consider Islam a lifestyle instead of a religion. Undoubtedly, a carefully religious origination of request, where Islam isn't only a religion however a total framework appointed by God for the socio-political just as the good and profound administration of humankind, had been a necessary piece of Mohammeds message and practice. â€Å"While a past filled with Christianity will ordinarily cover just issues identifying with religion from a tight perspective, a background marked by Islam may talk about, for instance, political turns of events, scholarly and imaginative life, tax collection and landholding, inborn and ethnic movements, etc.† (MSN Encarta Encyclopedia, 2007, pg 1). Jesus is loved today as the Son of God and deliverer of the individuals of God. It is through Him that they are spared and excused for our transgressions. As individuals of God, they need to satisfy Him and become offspring of God. They adore him through supplication, confidence, and works. It is petition in which the individuals of Islam additionally convey to God. Their petitions likewise respect Mohammed in that they face Mecca, the blessed city of Mohammed’s birth in request to God. Another manner by which the individuals of Islam respect the dad of their religion is with a journey to Mecca. This is the custom to which the individuals make the visit to Mecca and play out a progression of cleaning ceremonies and rituals out of appreciation for God. Christians keep on meeting in petition and love for God. They convey teachers to spread the message of Jesus to individuals who wouldn’t get the chance to hear the word in any case. They print books of the Bible to drop for everybody to peruse in all dialects. They assemble schools and houses of worship so as to show others how God needs us to live. The quantities of Muslims on the planet has been spreading at an unprecedented rate. This is to a limited extent because of the populace development inside the Muslim people group just as transformation of individuals as they study the religion and its duties. Both Jesus and Mohammed speak to a similar God, and the two of them began from poor, peaceful, conventional beginnings. The two of them talk about Gods love for His kin. The two of them encourage that their way is reality. Their lives have united a huge number of individuals in the conviction and confidence in one genuine God. It is here where the likenesses end and the distinctions start. The approaches to adore are strongly unique. Where Christians are reclaimed through God’s elegance and Jesus Christ, the Muslims stick to laws and customs. References Prayway (1997). A prologue to Islam. Effects of Obesity in the United States Navy

When Americans hear the words United States Sailor what picture goes to their brains? Do they see the all American kid standing tall, wearing his dress blues uniform with his white cap tilted to the side? Does he seem as though the mariner on the Cracker Jack box? That used to be the picture of the U. S. Mariner back when the Greatest Generation was battling during World War II. Presently, each of the an individual needs to do is go on the web and search U. S. Naval force Sailor in the web crawler and they will discover boundless pictures and recordings of mariners doing each day things just as supporting our inclinations around the globe. With the innovation of the World Wide Web, mariners are not just requested to carry out their responsibilities adrift yet in addition be faultless represetatives of the American individuals on shore. As a result of this significant piece of being an assistance part, it is basic that today’s mariner look like that all American kid or young lady. While mariners are grown-ups and should assume liability for their own activities, absence of preparing and thoughtfulness regarding dietary wellbeing has added to numerous mariners release from administration due to being out of Navy controlled physical guidelines. The U. S. Naval force praised its 235th birthday celebration on October thirteenth 2010, however the manner in which mariners are by and large authoritatively assessed genuinely is just around 35 years of age. Operational Navy Instruction, (OPNAVINST) 6110. 1 was actualized on June 16, 1976 from an order given by the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO). The expressed reason for this guidance was â€Å"To actualize a physical work out regime for Navy staff, customary and hold, that will address the issue for physical endurance and quality fundamental for battle adequacy and preparation as coordinated by Secretary Of The Navy Instruction (SECNAVINST) 6100. † (Hodgdon, 1999). In the 6110. 1, the term weight was characterized as â€Å"excessive amassing of fat in the body showed by poor muscle tone, obesity and folds, mass messed up with regards to body manufacture, dyspnea (troublesome or toiled breathing), and weariness upon gentle effort, all of which degrades military appearance† (Ho dgdon, 1999). The work out schedule that was built up from this guidance was just an adjusted form of a heart stimulating exercise program created by a Dr. Ken Cooper. This heart stimulating exercise program was a lot of warm up activities and essential workout that were utilized dependent on a focuses framework. This first physical wellness guidance did exclude a physical wellness test. On July 17, 1980, the Navy gave a refreshed guidance for physical wellness. This guidance was OPNAVINST 6110. 1A which was practically indistinguishable from the first 6110. 1 except for including a wellness test. This test was actualized to set certain norms that all mariners would need to cling to as a path for the Navy to follow the physical availability of its mariners. For instance, a male age 17-25 needed to play out at least 30 sit-ups in a short time; 20 push-ups; four force ups (discretionary); complete a 1. 5 mile run/stroll in 16:30 (OPNAVINST 6110. 1A, 1980). On June 29, 1981 Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 1308. 1 was actualized. The greatest distinction of this order was that the Navy executed a weight control program to add to its physical work out schedule. As the Navy began to tweak its physical testing of its mariners, the hierarchy of leadership included and deducted those components that they accepted characterize a model mariner. On August 7, 1986 OPNAVISNT 6110. 1C was given naval force wide (Hodgdon, 1999). There were a few significant changes to the 6110. 1. One of the more extreme changes was that all Navy work force were required to take the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) two times every year. Another change was a wellbeing hazard screening that should have been done before a mariner was permitted to take an interest in the PRT. One more change was that the muscle to fat ratio appraisal was to be isolated from the PRT and was to be directed as an individual evaluation. Under this guidance another procedure and new guidelines for estimating muscle to fat ratio was built up. One of the most significant changes that originated from this guidance was that new ramifications for bombing the muscle to fat ratio were built up. Under the new standard muscle versus fat evaluation, if a mariner was analyzed as hefty they were not permitted to take part in the PRT until cleared by the clinical staff. In the event that the mariner was analyzed as stout successively in a multi month time frame they were to be screened for detachment from deployment ready. It is a direct result of these adjustments in how the Navy Chain of Command saw its mariners, that the mariner themselves needed to reconsider how they took care of their professions. Before the execution of the 6110. arrangement guidelines, every one of the a mariner needed to do to be seen as remarkable was ensure that they were the topic specialists in their field. This implied detailing for obligation early, concentrating the entirety of the rate instructional booklets, and following the sets of their bosses. T he main physical standard that a mariner needed to keep up was have the option to finish their obligations in an excellent way and have the option to traverse a bring forth on a boat to battle a fire if need be. They were not viewed as an awful mariner, or not great at their particular employment, essentially on the grounds that they rounded out their uniform somewhat more than the person remaining close to them. At the point when the time had come to take their rate headway test they didn't assess what that mariner resembled in their uniform, the levels of leadership simply needed to ensure that the mariner was proficient about his/her activity. Nowadays, to be qualified for progression you not just need to realize your activity superior to the next mariner, you additionally need to look better than him as well. Prior to the execution of these new rules, a sailor’s assessment marks were given dependent on work execution. With the adjustments in the physical wellness guidance come changes in the assessment procedure also. Presently in the event that you bomb a Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA), it must be stamped and reported on your yearly assessment. On account of the consistently changing guidelines and guidelines of the physical wellness measures of the Navy, the Department of the Navy (DON) is currently actualizing increasingly formal preparing designed for sustenance and weight control. With this preparation, mariners are being instructed that there are a few advantages to a reasonable eating routine. They are being prepared that a sound eating routine doesn't simply improve their physical wellbeing however it additionally adds to their psychological well-being. Mariners presently have the apparatuses they have to begin and keep up these good dieting propensities. The Navy Nutrition and Weight Control Self-Study Guide is the Navy’s chief instrument that empowers administration individuals to improve their wellbeing and wellness (Cox, 1996). This guide is being given to all work force who are tried out the Fitness Enhancement Program (FEP). This program is a compulsory program for those mariners who flop any segment of a PFA. This program is additionally open to any mariner who needs to figure out how to deal with their bodies in a solid manner. With this new mentality of preparing mariners to deal with their bodies for wellbeing reasons and not simply to appear as though the mariner on the Cracker Jacks box, more mariners are taking this information with them after they change from military life to regular citizen life. There is another standard now for being a mariner. In the past it was tied in with going out to the bars with your shipmates and making some great memories. With the present beat of activities, a mariner must be prepared genuinely, just as intellectually, to answer America’s call any place they are required. The Navy is done choosing not to see mariners being out of physical measures. In the event that mariners can't adjust a solid way of life just as train for their occupations, they might be the ones remaining on the dock waving farewell to their ex-shipmates. Best of all, you have the chance to carefully put together a personal description that reflects your true inner spiritâ€"qualities that are probably not going to shine through during a quick encounter. Sports Even if you have never played sports in your life, they can be a great avenue for meeting people. Joining a beginner sports league such as baseball or volleyball gives you the chance to learn a new skill while also building new relationships.?? In addition, watching how others handle themselves during a gameâ€"whether they show good sportsmanship and offer help and advice to newcomers to the sportâ€"can tell you a lot about how they would conduct themselves in a romantic relationship. Dog Park If you own a dog, take it to a dog park! Look for other owners who are there on their own and strike up a conversation. Having the dogs to talk about will help to break the ice, and knowing that you have at least one thing in common is a good starting point for conversation.?? How Having a Pet Affects Your Stress Levels Hobbies and Clubs If you don’t already have a hobby, think about what interests you. Perhaps you always wanted to join a book club or gardening group. By participating in a hobby with opportunities for social gatherings, the odds of you meeting like-minded people will increase.?? Best of all, if your hobby is a passion, you will find it easier to strike up conversations with people you meet who share your passion. Specialty Stores Browsing in a specialty store gives you the opportunity to meet people with similar interests.?? Take notice of the books that strangers are looking at or the music that they pick up. If you see an opportunity to comment on an item that you likeâ€"take it. Talking with people about things you are passionate about is easier than grasping at conversation topics. A Word From Verywell If you are just  shy or nervous about dating, you probably still push yourself to go on dates and form romantic relationships. On the other hand, if you live with SAD, you may avoid romantic pursuits altogether. Unfortunately, if this behavior is allowed to continue over a long period of time, your  chance of meeting someone and having a satisfying romantic relationship is greatly reduced. Proper diagnosis and treatment including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and/or medication can help you to overcome the symptoms of SAD. Take the first step toward getting help and you will become more open to meeting new people and excited about the romantic prospects that await you.

History of Pearl Diving in Qatar

Pearl diving was one of Qatar’s main industries until the early 1940s when oil replaced it.  After being the major industry of the area for thousands of years, pearl diving was a decaying profession by the 1930s, after the introduction of Japanese cultured pearls and the Great Depression made pearl diving unprofitable. Even though pearling is no longer a thriving industry, it remains a beloved part of Qatari culture. History and Decline of the Pearling Industry Pearls were treasured in the ancient world, especially by Arabs, Romans, and Egyptians. These areas were largely supplied by the pearling industry in the Persian Gulf, with pearl divers working hard to keep up with the high demand from trading partners in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Pearl diving was risky and physically taxing. The lack of oxygen, the fast change in water pressure, and the sharks and other marine predators made pearl diving a very dangerous profession. Despite the danger, however, the high value of the pearls made pearl diving a profitable profession. When Japan created oyster farms in the mid-1920s to generate cultured pearls, the pearl market became glutted. In addition, the advent of the Great Depression in the 1930s devastated the pearl market as people no longer had extra money for luxury items such as pearls. With the market for pearls drying up, it was a miraculous event for the Qatari people when oil was discovered in 1939, changing their entire way of life. How Pearls Are Formed Pearls are formed when a foreign object enters the shell of an oyster, mussel, or other mollusk and becomes trapped. This object can be a parasite, grain of sand, or small piece of shell, but more commonly it is a food particle. To protect itself from the particle, the mollusk releases layers of aragonite (the mineral calcium carbonate) and conchiolin (a protein). Over a period of two to five years, these layers build up and form a pearl. In oysters and freshwater mussels, nacre (mother of pearl) gives pearls their natural luster. Pearls from other mollusks have a porcelain-like texture and don’t shine like pearls with nacre do. Qatar is a perfect place to find such beautiful, shiny pearls.  Because of its abundant freshwater springs, the water there is part salty and part fresh, an ideal environment for nacre formation. (Most of the fresh water comes from the Shatt al Arab River.) Cultured pearls follow the same essential formation process as natural pearls, but they are created under carefully controlled conditions on a pearl farm. Pearling Voyages Traditionally, Qatar’s pearl fishers made two annual boat voyages during the June-September fishing season. There was a long trip (two months) and a shorter trip (40 days). Most pearling boats (often called a â€Å"dhow†) contained 18-20 men. Without modern technology, pearl diving was extremely dangerous. The men didn’t use oxygen tanks; instead, they pinched their noses with pieces of wood and held their breaths for up to two minutes. They would also often wear a sheath made of leather on their hands and feet to protect them from the rocky surfaces found below. Then they would throw a rope with a rock tied at the end into the water and jump in. These divers would often swim over 100 feet below, quickly use their knife or a rock to pry oysters and other mollusks off of rocks or the sea floor and place the oysters in a rope bag that they had hung around their necks. When they could hold their breath no more, the diver would pull on the rope and be pulled back up to the boat. Their load of mollusks would then be dumped on the deck of the ship and they would dive again for more. Divers would continue this process throughout the day. At nighttime, the dives would stop and they would all open the oysters to look for the valuable pearls. They could go through thousands of oysters before finding even one pearl. Not all dives went smoothly, however. Diving that deep meant that rapid changes in pressure could cause serious medical problems, including bends and shallow water blackout. Also, the divers were not always alone down there. Sharks, snakes, barracudas, and other aquatic predators were rampant in the waters near Qatar, and would sometimes attack divers. The pearl diving industry got even more complicated when colonial tycoons got involved. They would sponsor pearling voyages but require half of the divers’ profits. If it was a good voyage, then all could become wealthy; if it was not, then the divers could become indebted to the sponsor. Between this exploitation and the health risks involved with pearling, divers lived strenuous lives with little reward. Pearl Diving Culture in Qatar Today While pearl fishing is no longer vital to Qatar’s economy, it is celebrated as a part of Qatari culture. Annual pearl diving competitions and cultural celebrations are held. The four-day Senyar pearl diving and fishing competition recently boasted more than 350 participants, navigating between Fasht and Katara Beach on traditional ships. The annual Qatar Marine Festival is a free event that hosts not only pearl diving demonstrations but also a seal show, dancing waters, food, an elaborate musical play, and miniature golf. It is a fun event for families to learn about their culture and have some fun too.

Tourism Theories and Practices

Question: Write an essay on "Tourism Theory and Practices". Answer: Another important factor that influences the sustainability of the Gold Coast is its communication and marketing services. Till 2015, the number of social media follower was found 1,881,173, while the website visitor number was 2,733,949. The overall tourism had also generated sales lead of $6,716,040. In addition to that the Gold Coast tourism had generated more than $35 million exposures through its media destination services (https://www.visitgoldcoast.com/, 2016). The overall marketing and communication channel has been found potential enough to generate higher sustainability in the tourism market. Introduction: Managing tourism sustainability has become a major challenge for the current organizations, as several new elements such as environmental, social and cultural aspects impact on the sustainability of the tourism approaches. The tourist destination region is considered as the geographical area or region that has been designed by the government or tourism bureau which have a common environmental or cultural characteristic. Ruhanen et al. (2015) stated that the attractiveness of the countries, states and provinces are often created the special destination of the national and international visitors. However, different theoretical approaches can be followed to identify different aspects of TDR such as cultural tourism, Eco tourism, sport tourism, etc. (Breen and Hing, 2007). The seven stages of the tourism development framework of Butler (1980) and the application of Game Theoretical Frameworks could be discussed to identify the similarity and the contrasting contribution of the tourist destination region. According to Warnken and Guilding (2013), the game theory states that the rational decision makers need to select moderate strategies to manage the sustainable development of the tourist destination. Any aggression on the tourism approach could hamper the sustainability of that destination. On the contrary, the Butler model focuses on the identification of approaches at the proper time in which those approaches can be replicated (Dupre and Xu, 2015). The stages of the tourist development region are analysed through this model via steps like exploration, involvement, development, consolidation, stagnation and decline followed by the rejuvenation. Comparing these values against the number of visit ratio, the marketers could be able to identify the sustai nability parameter of the tourist destination regions (Dredge and Jamal, 2013). The current study has concentrated on this portfolio, considering the case of the Gold Coast Tourism Destination. Main Body: Gold Coast is a coastal city and one of the Australias premier holiday destinations. Since its establishment by the tourism in 1975, Gold Coast tourism corporation (GCT) has operated as a membership based destination sector. It has become an attracted place for the Australian families for many decades. The Gold Coast region has 70 kilometres of unremitting coastline and is surrounded by rainforest hinterland, including world heritage-listed national parks (www.queensland.com, 2016). Today, Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with its sunny subtropical. According to the opinion of Weaver (2011), the Gold Coast Destination Tourism Management Plan (DTMP) is a milestone commitment which has designed the framework of Gold Coast Tourism Development. The basic vision for developing the Gold Coast area as a tourist place was to be globally recognized by the global tourist segment. Supporting this, Lawton and Weaver (2015) added that the other mission was to be established as a world cl ass vacation and business events destination with its unrivalled variety of entertainment, stimulation and fun. The Destination Tourism Management Plan was an important collaboration between the City of Gold Coast, Gold coast Tourism and the Australian Government to outline the design of the Gold Cost tourism for its future long term success (Cooper and Lemckert, 2012). Adding to this Kennelly and Toohey (2016) stated that the Destination Tourism Strategy provides the framework for the development in the Gold coast tourism by synchronizing the stakeholders in a common direction to maximize the tourism potential in the Gold Coast city. It is also fruitful to balance the social, economic and environmental outcomes. Presently, through an effective approach to marketing, promotion and the infrastructure development program, Gold Coast are operating at the highest standards of services, safety and sustainability. The statistics of the Gold Coast tourism states that nobilities of people, capital, expertise, resources and the images create the sustainable governance of the tourist destination. Dredge and Jamal (2013) also indicated that the spatial restructuring, re envisioning of the community and the pluralisation of the destination affects the sustainability of the tourist destination region. On the other hand, Weaver (2011) stated that cultivation of the heritage tourism has influenced the Gold Coast Tourism receiving mass tourists from different international regions. The historic data also show that Gold Coast also shows a similar pattern of sustained exponential growth since its initial stage, expanding from about 2,000 residents in 1900 to 9,000 in 1947, 33,000 in 1961, 150,000 in 1981, 270,000 in 1991, and about 600,000 in 2010 (Weaver, 2011). Along with these growths, the natural beauty and the beach front have been considered as the essential factors that has made the Gold Coast tourism attractive to the visitors. The beach lengths for 30 km areas, is full of sand volume and provides additional spaces for greater strength of tourists (Cooper and Lemckert, 2012). The Gold Coast Tourism sustainability report also shows that ownership, orientation, spatial configuration, authenticity, scarcity, status, carrying capacity, market and moreover the image is the prime factors that contribute to the sustainable tourism of the Gold Coast city. The TDR attractiveness of the Gold Coast city is driven by the motivating factors which are mentioned below: Travel is escape Travel is communication Travel broadens the mind Travel is recuperation and regeneration Travel is compensation and social integration Travel is freedom and self determination Travel is self realisation Travel is happiness Similar set of attractiveness has been found in the Gold Coast region, where the sunlust, creates repeat visit through the recreational activity. Additionally, Ward and ORegan (2009)also stated that wonderlust also offers multi destination cultural aspects, which helps the Gold Coast tourism earning greater sustainability. The 2015 sustainability report shows that the international visitor arrivals, the Gold Coast performed very strongly with 6.2% growth in terms of strength and experienced a 13.4% increase in international expenditure generating direct receipts to a record $1.1 billion (https://www.visitgoldcoast.com/, 2016). Globalization and the fluid movement of people regarding the residents, recreations, ideas, knowledges, capital infrastructure all are the key component that directs the role of the tourism industry (Tsai and Chen 2011). The bussing city Gold Coast has a huge economic contribution to the country of Australia. Over the past few decades, the Australian tourism has won a remarkable economic, societal and environmental growth through the development of Gold Coast Tourism. According to the opinion of Dupre and Xu (2015), Gold Coast becomes an important component of the Australian economy as it contributed to 8.5% of Australian total export earnings in the last year. Being a coastal resort city Gold Coast has enhanced sea defense, sand volume. The tourism development sector was helped to develop the drainage modification system in the coastal side of Australia (Wong et al. 2011). On the other hand, Dredge and Jamal (2013) stated that there is a wide range of challenges that adversely affec ts the coastal side region of Australia due to the effect of Gold Coast tourism. The average water level is the biggest challenge of the sea side tourism like the Gold Coast. Although, the huge economical and societal development in Australia through the engagement of Gold Coast tourism, made a sustainable market position in Gold Coast, Australia in the tourism global industry. Gold Coast has tangible impacts on the population, economic infrastructure and the environmental factors to address the requirements of the global tourist (Weaver, 2011). Furthermore, the report on Australian tourism, revealed that Gold Cost tourism helps to develop the coastal side lifestyle through its tourism components. Arrival of million visitors has changed the economic structure of the sea side populations. Despite of the global economic challenges and natural disasters in the year of 201-2011 Australia's tourism enlargement was sustained by amplifying consumption of overseas visitors (Dredge and Jamal , 2013). On the back of a strong Australian dollar, 2010-11 also saw a record 7.4 million short-term resident departures from Australia, an increase of 9.9% from 2009-10 (www.visitgoldcoast.com, 2016). The Australian Government released the 2020 Tourism Industry Potential estimating that the Australian tourism industry has to be worth up to $140 billion in overnight spending (www.visitgoldcoast.com, 2016). The prime focus of sustainable tourism is to visit a place as visitors and make a positive impact on the environment, society and economy of the specific tourist region (Abodeeb, et al., 2015).The component of sustainable tourism those are evident with the Gold coast Tourism are Environment, Social and Economic. In the opinion of Breen and Hing (2007), environmental factor generally balance the use of environmental resources and the economic benefits of the Gold Coast tourism sector. Additionally, the social factor of maintaining the communal value is balancing the environmental resources of Gold coast area. On the other hand, the economic component improves the financial growth by balancing the social and communal values. Figure 1: Sustainable Tourism Aligning the sustainability concept with the evidence of the TDR, it can be stated that the degree of local satisfaction with the Gold Coast Tourism, tourist satisfaction, economic benefit have enabled the Gold Coast tourism managing its sustainability. The sustainability report also shows that 2015 has experienced $404,108 membership revenue. Additionally, the increased number of attendants at the Gold Coast event indicates a positive sustainability nature as well. The quarterly Business Events update also stated that more than 90% of attendees rated events as good or excellent. The membership satisfaction rating has been reached to 3.9%, which was 3.85% in 2013-2014. The customer centric service and the innovative tourism offerings have promoted the Gold Coast tourism in the 8th position across all other international markets. The sustainability report also states the sustainability reasons and the impact on the overall Gold Coast Tourism segment. The sustainability report also sho ws that in the June 2015, Gold Coast welcomed 3.3 million domestic overnight visitors, which had generated excess revenue of $2.4 billion in visitor expenditure. The average length stay was found 4 days. The Domestic visitor ratio had been increased by 10.7%, across this same time with the region welcoming 7.4 million visitors, and generated $614 million from the international tourist segments (https://www.visitgoldcoast.com/, 2016). Conclusion: The preliminary analysis of the study reflects that the tourism theory and practices of s tourist destination region. While conducting study I came to know about the seven stages of tourism development framework of Butler (1980) and the application of Game Theoretical Framework which indicates the sustainable tourism development plan for the Gold Coast Australia. After that, I realized the environmental societal and economical improvement of Australia having the tourist spot like Gold Coast. Furthermore, during the research, I perceived the next phase of development plan adopted by the Australian Government by introducing several tourist developments planning for the sustainable growth of Gold Coast in near future. Machiavelli1 Essay Example For Students

Machiavelli1 Essay I would rather be in hell and converse with great minds than live in paradise with that dull rabble. In his lifes writings, Niccolo Machiavelli, sought out the strength of the human character, and wrote according to his own rules; trying to better the political philosophy of his time. Machiavelli, a fiercely independent Renaissance man, advocated the prosperity of Italian politics, and wanted Italy to rise above the rest of the world. Machiavellis writings dealt with many issues that had not been attacked in his time, and utilized his distinct brand of political philosophy to try and change the politics and government that shaped his era. The Prince, regarded as his most controversial and successful work, spelled out a method of amelioration; whether positive or negative, virtuous or severe, a prince was to uphold the strength of a nation and a government. The next few pages will take a closer look at the life that has followed Niccolo Machiavelli, the use of historical allusions and the explicitness used in The Prince. Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy on May 3rd of 1469. Many changes were taking place faster at this time than the masses could follow. The Renaissance was changing the world. Machiavelli had been born during time of change and subsequently shaped who he was and what he was going to do. Although Italy was the center of the Renaissance, characterized by rebirth of learning and culture, it didnt have a central government. Italy was divided up into 4 large city-states that were unfortunately not in control of themselves. They were under the constant mercy of the other more politically stable European governments, which had a central government that unified the nation and solidified the masses in times of war. Florence was controlled by the Medici family, who had been in power for around 50 years (Ridolfi, Roberto, p.5). Piero de Medici died the same year that Machiavelli was born and his son Lorenzo took over where his father left off (Ridolfi, Roberto p.6). The next years of Machiavellis life included many dramatic experiences that altered the way that he viewed government. The Medici family was overthrown, and the power of the government changed hands when the French, lead by Louis XII invaded Italy (The Prince p. viii). Through decisions made by the Church and Pope Julius II, the Medici family came back to restore order and take up where they left off. It was through these actions that Machiavelli was viewed as unfit for any type of political position and was forced into exile. The Prince, written in 1513, was started during this time of expulsion in order to once again become in the good graces of the Medici family. Unfortunately, that wouldnt happen and he wouldnt return to Florence until 1526, only to die a year later in 1527. Throughout Machiavellis career, he was exposed to a variety of politics; politics of the church, of the Medici family, and politics to stay alive. He had to leave Florence and retire to his country home in San Casciano in order to save his life for his conspiring with the Boscoli-Capponi anti Medicean plot, and recognizing that military (Ruffo-Fiore, Silvia p.v). Machiavellis intentions were always in favor of uniting Italy, but his ideas and actions werent always seen in that light. He was tortured for conspiracy from this act (Ruffo-Fiore, Silvia, p.v). In the spirit of his controversial life, Machiavellis death engaged marked hostility as well. The Prince was published in 1532 and the many people that read it were taken aback by it. They thought Machiavelli advocated, more or less, a tyrant to control the nation; a prince that was heartless, evil, was disinterested in the good of anything, except himself. This lead to the term Machiavellian, which is equivalent to a corrupt government. By a quirk of history, Machiavellisname has come to be associated with acertain kind of political behaviour, according to which rulers and politiciansdisregarding moral rules and conscience,or with a devilish and manipulative cunning, which is something else againIn 1997, rapper Tupac Shakur, released the album titled Makaveli which came out shortly before he had been killed (www.tupac.com). The connection to Niccolo Machiavelli comes from what his name is associated with, (www.tupacshakur.com) the powerful man that he advocated in The Prince, and also the misunderstanding that he faked his death to gain power. The rumor created by this album and the subculture that has followed, has misinterpreted Machiavellis name once again, and misconstrued his political theories. Machiavellis intention of a strong and dominant leader has been transformed by this subculture brought on Tupac Shakurs album Makaveli, and the rumor of faking his apparent death; something that Machiavelli never instig ated (http://wwww.magna.com.au/chrisn/death.htm). Spelling and Differently - Analysis EssayThroughout The Prince, Machiavelli gives many orders for a prince to imitate based on personal experience and knowledge gathered from his time spent involved with politics and government. In chapter XIV titled That Which Concerns a Prince on the Subject of War Machiavelli explains that the most important aspect of the omnipotent rule that a Prince should posses is war (The Prince, p.79). Machiavelli witnessed the art of war and through his dealings, he expresses whole-heartedly the importance of war to a prince. A Prince ought to have no other aim thought, nor select anything else for hisstudy, than war and its rules and discipline;for this is the sole are that belongs tohim that who rules, and it is such a forcethat it not only upholds those who are bornprinces, but it often enables men to risefrom a private station to the rank. And on the contrary, it is seen that when princes have thought more of ease thanMachiavelli successfully shows the importance of a prince to have the ability to study the art of war. In his time, states and governments were lost due to the inadequacies of the rulers that had power. Italy was the perfect example of a government that had these troubles. Niccolo Machiavellis life was full of obstacles and asperity. In his life he dreamed of a unified Italy, and one man, a prince, to achieve his goals. He was a master of politics, and a philosopher that preached towards the empowerment of government. Unfortunately his intentions remain clouded and this fuels the uncertainty that follows his name. Along with his inspiring work on politics and governments, he wrote satirical plays and also wrote poetry. Although, for good or bad, he will always be remembered for the work he accomplished with The Prince. The way that Machiavelli compared and contrasted forms of governments with historical events supplemented The Prince, so that it was so much more then an outline, but a guide of measures to be followed, characteristics to be filled, and the fashion that a strong man, a prince should rule. Machiavelli did not edit or hold back the virtues that a prince should posses. It was explicit, and it gave meaning to the abilities of authority that a prince had to rule with. It justified cruel actions that a prince should be capable of and willing to utilize in the times of need. Machiavellis reputation isnt one of peace, love and goodwill to man. Machiavelli wasnt worried about this reputation. He worried about great men and the minds and ideas that they could create. Despite the challenges he faced, he would rather be in hell and converse with great minds than live in paradise with that dull rabble.Bibliography:Works SitedRidolfi, Roberto. Millers Crossing Essays - Marian Devotions, Christian Prayer, Rosary

Miller's Crossing This Is Your Brain on Crime The movie Millers Crossing and the novel Legs by William Kennedy have two characters that have a special quality, which adds dramatically to their characterization. The main character of Millers Crossing, Tom Reagan, and the main character from Legs; Jack Diamond shares many similar traits and symbolic equivalence. In particular they had an item that they wore or carried, and this item had the ability to show what is going on inside the characters mind. Not only did the items have the ability to tell what was on their mind; it also has the ability to foreshadow. At times in the novel where their mind/conscience was tested, the use of their items determined the outcome. The body can not live without the mind, so it is important for the characters to remain close to these items that symbolize their mind or they will surly die. Tom Reagan had a dream in which his hat fell off his head and the wind blew it away. He did not run after the hat in the dream. However in reality he kept the hat close to him at all costs. The dream is the opening to the movie and is explained during a conversation with Verna. During the movie he is seen with the hat and without. The trend his hat wearing follows with when engaging in sex it is off, and actually gets its own scene of being thrown on to a chair or something of that nature. For the most part, it is also seen without his hat when something bad is happening to him. According to Cirlot, The hat, since it covers the head, generally takes on the significance of what goes on inside of it (Cirlot 140). When the hat is off, he becomes mindless and driven by evil. From this the viewer can derive that Tom Reagan has a moral conscience which it brought out by the hat, but besides that he has no heart. To change ones hat is equivalent to changing ones mind. At the climatic point of the movie where Bernie begs for his life and asks Tom Reagan to have a heart, he retorts by saying, what heart and put a bullet in his head. The hat is missing from this scene, and is crucial to foreshadowing the events to come. Before at Millers Crossing when he had his hat on, he spared Bernies life, but with the change of the hat, he has transformed into the immoral Tom Reagan and shot Bernie with ease. At the end of the movie he is seen putting his hat back on. This is foreshadowing his return to wholeness, and it is further proven with his denying working with Leo again in business. Jack Diamond is the Gatsby of the gangster era. For the most part the reader sees Diamond as the man who has it all. However there is a mysterious quirk about this man of killing, stealing, and adultery. He carries a Rosary. Jack Diamond has been shot at and engaged in knife fights plenty of times in his life, however he always came out alive. It can be speculated that he carried this Rosary through all of these ordeals. Marcus, the narrator stated, I saw Jack on deck alone after that, with a rosary, the first time I knew he carried one. He was not praying- only staring at it, strung like webbing through his fingers, as if it were a strange, incomprehensible object (Kennedy 91). This Rosary is the source of his thinking, and without it he is lost. Not only is it the source of thinking it also serves as his judgement standard. Jack Diamond was a man that had plenty reason to question his actions and the Rosary was a way to find truth when he wanted to find it. The pervious quote came immediately after Jack Diamond dumped the hot jewels into the ocean. However, the general trend with Jack Diamond was that he is an immoral man. Lack of resorting to the Rosary reflected lack of thinking, which is sure to lead to complicated matters. When Jack's lucky blue suit came back from the hotel cleaners,

Virtu essays

Virtu essays In Machiavellis The Prince, in order to be a successful ruler, a statesman must possess virtà ¹. The Machiavellian principle of virtà ¹ begins with the idea that a ruler must be prudent and cautious, and in times of peace he may be non-violent. Yet, if the situation calls for it, he needs to take bold, decisive action, at any cost. It can be appropriate to lie and make false promises, as well as to act in a manner that seems violent and ruthless. The essential need for political order is to be sacrificed for no reason, moral or immoral. Instead, political decisions are to be based on the means by which to retain political power, and the political practicality of those results. Machiavelli feels that the world is comprised of unpredictable forces that are working against each other, and a leader needs to create an order out of these forces. He believes that by nature human beings are more inclined toward evil than good, and so it is impossible to do what is only morally right. If a ruler tries to proceed in this fashion, he is bound for failure because of the impossibility of adjusting continuously to the ever-changing circumstances. A ruler only has to reflect the human nature of a state, to know how to act. In order for a ruler to exemplify the meaning of virtà ¹ he must be committed to doing what need be. He must realize that a ruler is only as strong as the foundation on which he builds his political power. It is of the utmost importance to realize that even if at a present time things are peaceful, situations change repeatedly. Fate and fortune can be the ruin of a ruler. Yet, if a ruler uses judgment and is prepared at all times for whatever circumstances may occur, fate and fortune can be controlled. War is to never be avoided, regardless of its justness/injust ness; avoidance only weakens ones position. A war is to be won by force or fraud, whatever means necessary. A ruler also needs...

The Dobzhansky-Muller Model

The Dobzhansky-Muller Model The Dobzhansky-Muller Model is a scientific explanation of why natural selection influences speciation in such a way that when hybridization occurs between species, the resulting offspring is genetically incompatible with other members of its species of origin. This occurs because there are several ways that speciation occurs in the natural world, one of which is that a common ancestor can break off into many lineages due to reproductive isolations of certain populations or parts of populations of that species. In this scenario, the genetic makeup of those lineages changes over time through mutations and natural selection choosing the most favorable adaptations for survival. Once the species have diverged, many times they are no longer compatible and can no longer sexually reproduce with each other. The natural world has both prezygotic and postzygotic isolation mechanisms that keep species from interbreeding and producing hybrids, and the Dobzhansky-Muller Model helps to explain how this occurs through the exchange of unique, new alleles and chromosomal  mutations. A New Explanation for Alleles Theodosius Dobzhansky and Hermann Joseph Muller created a model to explain how new alleles arise and are passed down in the newly formed species. Theoretically, an individual that would have a mutation at the chromosomal level would not be able to reproduce with any other individual. The Dobzhansky-Muller Model attempts to theorize how a brand new lineage can arise if there is only one individual with that mutation; in their model, a new allele arises and becomes fixed at one point. In the other now diverged lineage, a different allele arises at a different point on the gene. The two diverged species are now incompatible with each other because they have two alleles that have never been together in the same population. This changes the proteins that are produced during transcription and translation, which could make the hybrid offspring sexually incompatible; however, each lineage can still hypothetically reproduce with the ancestral population, but if these new mutations in the lineages are advantageous, eventually they will become permanent alleles in each population- when this occurs, the ancestral population has successfully split into two new species. Further Explanation of Hybridization The Dobzhansky-Muller Model is also able to explain how this may happen at a large level with whole chromosomes. It is possible that over time during evolution, two smaller chromosomes may undergo centric fusion and become one large chromosome. If this happens, the new lineage with the larger chromosomes is no longer compatible with the other lineage and hybrids cannot happen. What this essentially means is that if two identical yet isolated populations start with a genotype of AABB, but the first group evolves to aaBB and the second to AAbb, meaning that if they crossbreed to form a hybrid, the combination of a and b or A and B occurs for the first time in the populations history, making this hybridized offspring unviable with its ancestors. The Dobzhansky-Muller Model states that incompatibility, then, is most likely caused by whats known as alternative fixation of two or more populations instead of just one and that the hybridization process yields a co-occurrence of alleles in the same individual that is genetically unique and incompatible with others of the same species.

A New Housing Development in the North Essex Assignment - 1

A New Housing Development in the North Essex - Assignment Example A different types of property mix found in these areas, whether the property infrastructure differs between these areas, the cost comparison of different properties in these areas and any interesting aspect near these areas that can add value to the aforesaid property and finally what are the issues how the total pricing of a property may be considered. It is an accepted fact in the Real Estate industry that the price of any property will vary with location; total carpet area, amenities and value additions like nearby supermarkets, swimming pool, and open space. Hence each variable must be considered while proposing a new establishment both for cost effectiveness and customer focus (Pagourtzi et al, 2003). Data Collection: We have considered housing properties in Colchester, Mersea Island, and Jaywick and details were collected from http://www.rightmove.co.uk/.We selected 58 properties in Jaywick, 60 in Mersea Island and 59 in Colchester so a total of 178 properties were selected. The distribution was more or less equal. For the above analysis and comparison, t-tests and ANOVAs were conducted and the p-value was noted. The hypothesis was that if the p-value is less than 0.05 it will mean that there is a significant difference between the observations and the observation has not taken place due to chance factors of random sampling and if the p-value is more than 0.05 it will mean that there is a no significant difference between the observations and the observation has taken place due to chance factors of random sampling (Warne et al, 2012). Further, a multiple regression equation was conducted to find how does pricing of a property relate to the various independent variables like bedrooms, parking space, and others. The equation was done through the software based on R programming language (Wessa, 2014).
